Women of Qatar

Reflections on Ten Years of Women of Qatar

Dear Reader,

Ten years ago, I set out to document stories that I believed were too important to be forgotten. What began as a passion project soon became a journey of listening, learning, and connecting with remarkable women whose experiences have enriched our understanding of Qatar’s past and present. As Women of Qatar celebrates its tenth anniversary, I am happy to announce the release of the first women of Qatar. This book offers an opportunity to reflect on that journey and celebrate the voices that have made it meaningful.

When I first started this journey ten years ago, I could not have imagined where it would lead. What began as a small effort to capture and celebrate women’s experiences grew into a platform that has connected generations, professions, backgrounds, and perspectives. Along the way, I have had the privilege of listening to women speak about their ambitions, challenges, achievements, and the moments that shaped their lives. Each interview became a reminder that history is not only found in official records and institutions, but rather it is also found in personal stories, family memories, and lived experiences.

Looking back, one lesson stands above all others: meaningful work is never accomplished alone.

In the early years, I approached this project with determination, but I soon learned that passion alone was not enough. Women of Qatar only truly flourished when it became a collective effort. As the team grew, new ideas, skills, and perspectives strengthened the project in ways I could never have achieved by myself. Every member of the team brought something unique, challenging assumptions, improving processes, and helping transform an idea into a lasting initiative.

Beyond the team, the support of families, friends, mentors, interviewees, and the wider community became the foundation upon which this project was built. Women entrusted us with their stories. Families opened their archives and shared treasured photographs. Friends offered encouragement during moments of uncertainty. Community members suggested interviewees, connected us with new voices, and reminded us why this work matters.

This book is therefore not a celebration of a single individual. It is a celebration of collective belief. It is the result of countless acts of generosity, trust, and collaboration over the past decade.

As you read these pages, I hope you see not only the remarkable women featured within them but also the community that helped make their stories visible. I hope you are reminded that preserving history is a shared responsibility and that every story, no matter how ordinary it may seem, contributes to the larger narrative of who we are.

To everyone who has been part of this journey over the past ten years: thank you. Your support, trust, and belief in the value of these stories have made this milestone possible.

May these pages inspire future generations to continue documenting, sharing, and celebrating the voices that shape our society.

With gratitude,

Founder, Women of Qatar
